Drug of Choice

When I was a child
My life was so easy
That I only formed plush soft early memories

Until I felt the weight
Of my first heavy thoughts
That fell like a shadow mountain on the light

And some people drink
Some people smoke
Some use pills
And some use dope
But my drug of choice is being hopelessly sad

And for most of my life
I lived in a haze
And pushed everyone and everything I loved away

And I can’t count the times
I’ve turned to suicide
Because fighting with death always got me high

And some people drink
Some people smoke
Some use pills
And some use dope
But my drug of choice is being hopelessly sad

Thanks to the pills
I’ve been sober for years
And I’m no longer ruled by a lying thieving killer

But I’m not going to lie
I miss the crushing highs
And the painful pleasure of giving up the fight

And some people drink
Some people smoke
Some use pills
And some use dope
But my drug of choice is being hopelessly sad

That’s my drug of choice
