Angelique
She was just
The right kind of danger for me
Rolled her own
And wore a pair of dirty jeans
Forget her eyes
It was all about her crooked teeth
I knew it then
But I didn’t care at the time
Through the fields
She led me to a dizzy absence
Freed her hair
And stole something from the distance
Hands pulled hard
And I couldn’t take the silence
Wind whipped the grass
And the sea beat the rocks below
Where I saw myself
Throwing my body at the rocks
Falling fast and free and lost
Ready to pay twice the cost
As I slipped through the angel-less air
To the waves
Her body breathed like the wet sand
Dark set eyes
And a knife ended up in her soft hand
Land was lost
To a tongue that I don’t understand
She drifted off
And left me bleeding out
Like I knew she would
And I made myself sick that night
Trying hard to forget the knife
While she paled in the silver light
As I fought with a man I don’t know
